In the Footsteps of Kings

Dunadd, Argyll.

This had been a place I’d been meaning to visit for a long time, due to the history of this iron age hill fort. Dating back as far as AD 500, the surrounding area is peppered with standing stones, rock carvings, and prehistoric burial cairns. The summit of Dunadd has a rock with a carved footprint in it, fabled to be where the ancient kings of Scotland and Ireland were crowned. There’s also some suggestion that this was the place of Arthurian legend. Walking the ancient track up the hill, with golden sunlight illuminating the route, I wondered just how many others had also taken this journey and who they might have been.
