Winter’s Peak

Ballachulish, Lochaber.

This was a pretty hard won shot. A few days dedicated to photography and aiming at sunrise/sunsets turned into a waterfall fest as the weather decided it really wasn’t going to play ball. I’d almost given up hope of getting any decent skies when I spotted a tiny patch of blue moving across the packed grey sky. So I got my feet wet, found some foreground on a cold February day, carefully set up a shot, and waited. Sometimes, a little luck and patience is required. After what felt like an eternity, that small patch of blue arrived revealing a nice contrail, which I used as a leading line. I had been itching to press the shutter release, and I was delighted when things fell into place. Sometimes with landscape photography you just need to put yourself in a good place and wait until something happens! After waiting for so long I was determined to not waste any of this frame, so composed and shot in 2x3 format to get the most from the frame.
